Ali Jassim

Chief Executive Officer, Etihad Esco

Ali Al Jassim, CEO of Etihad Energy Services and holder of bachelors of Science in Civil Engineering, Masters of Business Administration with Honors and a PhD in Business Management, has 21 years of experience in leading roles delivering programs and projects.

Ali held top positions in both public and private sector entities such as Head of Follow-up and Development Office at the Dubai Municipality, Acting CEO & Director of Drivers Licensing at RTA and General Manager of Qeyadah Driving Solutions.

Presently Ali is leading Etihad - The Super ESCO in the Emirates of Dubai, which will help Dubai to make one of the most sustainable cities and a leading example of energy efficiency for the region and the world.

Under the leadership of Ali, Etihad ESCO has retrofitted 2,184 facilities (offices, staff accommodation, villas etc) and more than 246,000 lighting fixture in 2016 which helped Dubai to save 48 GWh of electricity and 11 MIG of water. His energy saving targets for this year is far ahead as compared to last year and he planned to save of 140 GWh of electricity and 303 MIG of water by end of 2017.

He is playing a key role in the expansion of Etihad ESCO, he formed two vertical under Etihad umbrella– Etihad Solar & Etihad M&V in last 1 year and is currently working to develop District Cooling vertical. He is also strategically planning to expand the footprint of Etihad ESCO to the MENA region and to other parts of the world.

Nathan Hones

Chief Operating Officer / Partner, Carter Associates

Nathan is a highly qualified architectural and project management professional with over 24 years client and consultant-side property development experience in Australia and the UAE.  He is now Partner at Carter Associates, a project consultancy and project management firm established in Dubai and working across the MENA region.  Carter Associates works with hotel owners and operators to identify opportunities for increasing efficiencies and revenue and decreasing costs and then project manage the implementation of the agreed strategy.  They have advised numerous hotels including the Rixos Bab Al Bahr, Movenpick Bur Dubai, Movenpick JBR, Fairmont Bab Al Bahr and the Grand Hyatt Dubai to name a few.

Nathan obtained an Architecture Degree with honours from Sydney University, finishing 1st in his graduating year in Architectural Design and awarded on the Dean's Honour List.  He then obtained a Diploma in Project Management and an MBA majoring in Construction & Real Estate from the UK.  Since coming to the Middle East in 2004, Nathan has enjoyed a number of key positions with both architectural consultants and UAE real estate developers, working on numerous multi-billion dirham hotel and hospitality projects.  He has a reputed industry standing having judged five property award events including Cityscape Global, Cityscape Abu Dhabi, Cityscape Jeddah, International Commercial Property Awards and Middle East Architect Awards and he is often called upon for expert commentary on hotel and hospitality related issues in the UAE.

Nathan’s focus in Carter Associates surrounds the challenges facing the UAE hospitality sector, in particular in relation to new build hotel project management as well as strategic planning and project management of hotel refurbishments in the MENA region.

Berno Ram

Berno Ram joined Philips in 1986 after graduating at the Technical University as Chemical Engineer in The Netherlands.

He started working at the Philips Centre of Manufacturing Technology in Eindhoven The Netherlands, first as process engineer and later as project leader developing and optimizing manufacturing processes. In 1994 he started the EcoDesign group focusing on evaluating and improving the environmental performance of Philips products. From 1997 onwards he was Sustainability Manager for several product divisions such as Philips Consumer Electronics and Philips Lighting.

In 2004 he became the first Green Marketing Manager of Philips Lighting, developing environmental strategies and bringing environmental innovations to the market. He was also representing Philips Lighting in European branch organizations and being the contact person for the European Union regarding environmental legislation related to Lighting. From 2009 he took up several international sales functions in Russia and South America, developing different sales channels both from products as systems perspective.

In 2016 he joined Philips Lighting Ventures helping to bring connected lighting innovations to the market. Since September 2018 he is responsible for the global Hospitality market based in Dubai. Here he focus on bringing Interact, our IoT based platform to the market.
